in India, a laudable effort was made by a group of budding Zoologists
of the eastern part of the country including teachers and students
from different educational institutions to form a Society. After a
long and thoughtful deliberation this group of wildlife lovers the
Zoological Society of Assam was born in 1983 at Gauhati University.
The Society was duly registered and a formal constitution was drawn
up. The first Annual Conference of the Society was held in March 1985
at the auditorium of GU under the chair of Dr K.N. Sarma. In 1985-86,
a series of popular talks were held in different schools and colleges
